We are all creatures of discourse, and that is where I have chosen to reside. The crux of my work resides in the notion that we carry with us ideas and thoughts that float in our consciences. These ideas and thoughts appear and recede in a constant flow. We are inundated with a constant barrage of sound and newsbytes through the media. This constant flux of sound bytes preys on our attention and competes and occupies our thoughts and dreams. The use of lyricism in popular culture and my own writing are the basis from which my work initiates.
My work focuses on the notion that we have thoughts that come forward in our mind and recede, not unlike a song which we can’t shake, whose chorus may haunt and demand your attention at the strangest of times. Using the traditional method of the triptych, I have constructed panels that compete with each other and demand our attention simultaneously. However, we cannot mentally internalize each symbol and or marking simultaneously and that is where the conflict begins.
